Are dull pain, tightness, or pressure around your forehead or the back of your head and neck. Some people say it feels like a clamp squeezing the skull. Often called stress headaches, they’re the most common type for adults.

Recent studies have shown that the majority of headaches are caused by the neck due to abnormal spinal alignment and abnormal postures. The most common is from the loss of the normal lordosis/cervical curve and forward head posture.

This curve is designed to give your neck strength, as well as keep mechanical tension off your spinal cord. When there is an abnormal spinal alignment the muscles and ligaments work overtime to make up the spinal weakness resulting in muscle spasms that cause headaches. Tight neck, traps, and shoulder muscles pull on the base of your skull (occipital ridge) and the side of the vertebrae at the top of your neck.

This causes a tremendous amount of tension and stretching on the surrounding tissue muscles, ligaments, arteries, and nerves in an additional tension through your jaw and head. The muscle group in the back of the neck, the front of the neck, and the upper chest can create a pattern that causes pressure and pain.

Throughout our lives, we have physical stress on our body, some acute such as falls, traumas, accidents and some chronic such as sitting for long periods, working at a desk for long periods, using computers or phones or standing for long periods.

These physical stresses cause us to lose the normal alignment and put the spine in a weakened position. This is represented in our outward appearance called posture. Abnormal posture equals Abnormal spinal alignment and weakened spinal system. Common abnormal postures such as forward head posture, low shoulder, uneven hips, and pelvis rotation are postural signs of a weakened damaged spine.

At first, this causes no pain but as it continues to abnormally load the spinal structures, it begins to break down the spinal structures leading to spinal damage and eventually the pain and functional loss to develop.
