What is a DMX Digital Motion X-Ray Test?

(DMX) Digital Motion X-ray is an innovative diagnostic technology that can help diagnose painful conditions that are often undetectable by non-weight bearing, motionless static x-rays, MRIs, and/or CT Scans,  MRI’s (magnetic resonance imaging).

This advanced diagnostic creates a digital video of the actual joint or body part in motion to test the ligaments for stability and function. Ligaments connect bones together to form a joint and have a function to prevent excessive motion between the bones when we move, providing stability to the joint. When ligaments are damaged it causes the joint to become unstable and excess motion to occur between the bones. This causes the unstable bones to cause pressure and irritation to nerves and blood vessels resulting in a variety of symptoms from pain to dizziness.

Digital Motion X-ray (DMX) diagnostic fluoroscopic imaging and comprehensive interpretation utilizing computerized radiographic mensuration analysis (CRMA) is used to diagnose ligamentous and osseous injuries helping patients  to receive an accurate diagnosis often not found by previous diagnostics.

spine which cannot be detected by non-bearing,

motionless MRI, CT, or Static X-ray.

Why get a (DMX) Digital Motion X-ray study for cervical ligament damage? Medical necessity?

A weight-bearing Digital Motion X-ray (DMX) diagnostic imaging study is performed to evaluate and/or confirm cervical ligament instability and damage:

  • Confirm ligamentous instability in the upper 30% of the cervical spine, which is supported by ligaments only and contains no discs. (Alar-Accessory-Transverse Ligaments)
  • Confirm ligamentous instability to the complete cervical spine in flexion-extension views. Anterior Longitudinal Ligament, Posterior Longitudinal Ligament, Interspinous Ligament and Compression Fractures
  • Confirm ligamentous instability at facet joints in flexion-extension oblique views. (Capsular Ligaments)
  • Confirm referred pain syndrome from capsular ligamentous injury. (Scleratomal Pain)
  • Confirm swallowing difficulty or complaint of swelling in throat
  • Increased pain and clicking on opening and closing jaw
  • Negative previous imaging test

Anyone who has been in a motor vehicle accident (even a minor one), or has had a traumatic fall or injury can benefit from the digital motion X-ray analysis.
