Scoliosis Treatment Without Bracing or Surgery

Scoliosis affects about 4.5 percent of the population with the incidence of scoliosis increasing with a persons’ age. Scoliosis affects more females than males. The condition occurs
when the spine of the back forms a C or an S shaped curve. A few of the symptoms of scoliosis are back pain, hip pain, leg pain, and trouble maintaining posture with uneven shoulders. About 88 percent of the cases of scoliosis have an unknown cause.
A first office visit for a scoliosis patient is comprehensive and addresses the muscular, neurologic, and spinal pathology characteristic of scoliosis. “A new patient receives a scoliosis consultation and medical history review, comprehensive scoliosis physical and neurological examination, scoliosis posture pictures, and eight precise x-rays to determine scoliosis configuration,” said Dr. Mark N. Berry.
Scoliosis Treatment Protocol
Flexibility and Hydration Procedures: a warming up process for the spine that loosens tight muscles and ligaments, increasing hydration and nutrition to spinal discs, and allows structural changes to be made in the spine during the Spinal Alignment and Strengthen and Reeducation Procedures. Some equipment used in the Mix might include cervical (neck) traction, vibrational traction, and a flexion distraction table.
Spinal Alignment Procedures: specialized mechanical adjusting instruments, hands, and drop table equipment are used to improve the scoliotic spine alignment.
Strengthen and Reeducation Procedures:
After the spinal adjustments are completed, the spine is set in position to allow for holding of the spinal changes. This is accomplished through neuromuscular reeducation spinal weighting and whole body vibrational therapy.
After 12 office visits the patient receives a series of x-rays to validate the effectiveness of the treatment. Scoliosis patients are given a series of exercises to perform at their

home in conjunction with office visits. Dr. Berry comments, “Currently we have reduced or stabilized over 90 percent of scoliosis cases we have treated without the use of bracing or surgery. Results can vary case by case.”
Scoliosis therapy offers these benefits to scoliosis patients
1) Scoliosis Treatment can begin at any degree of spinal curvature.
2). Most patients treated with our Scoliosis Treatment can return to school and non-strenuous work or household activities after a treatment session.
3). Scoliosis treatments are done at our clinic office; no need to go to the hospital.
4). Scoliosis Treatment does not use rigid back braces, so patients do not worry about how their clothes will fit with a rigid brace or have the psychological effects that bracing causes in some patients.
5) Scoliosis Treatment offers scoliosis patients an alternative to rigid back braces and spinal surgery.
Most cases of scoliosis are diagnosed at a wellness exam (physical or sports physical) in persons’ age 9 to 18 years. Due to the young age at the time of diagnosis, many times the doctor works with patients and their families. It is this teamwork approach working with scoliosis patients, parents, and families that gives Dr. Berry tremendous satisfaction. Dr. Berry explains, “It’s an amazing feeling to be able to offer scoliosis patients and their families hope for their condition and remove the fear from having to wear a rigid back brace 23 hours a day during this tough time of growing up as a teenager around their peers or having spinal rod/fusion surgery.” In addition to younger patients, Dr. Berry reports all age groups and all severities of curves can benefit from our Scoliosis Therapy.
