New Research Findings: Spinal Alignment is Important for Health and Function

Spinal Alignment - Health and Function

Correlation between radiographic sagittal alignment, range of motion, muscle strength, and quality of life in adults with spinal deformities.

Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/32158077/

[Results] Regarding alignment, significant correlations were found between hip extension range of motion and sagittal vertebral axis; between occiput-to-wall distance and thoracolumbar kyphosis; and between back extensor endurance and pelvic tilt and pelvic incidence-lumbar lordosis mismatch, also known as the calculated (pelvic incidence) minus (lumbar lordosis) value.

With regards to quality of life, significant correlations were found between pain-related disorders and lumbar spine range of motion, and between gait disturbance and knee and hip extension ranges of motion.

[Conclusion] Our findings suggest that these factors should be targeted for assessment and treatment of adults with spinal deformities.

At Sunset Chiropractic & Wellness our team goes beyond conventional medicine by offering services and techniques which can relieve symptoms while at the same time addressing and resolving the underlying causes of your particular dysfunction.

Throughout our lives, we have physical stress on our body, some acute such as falls, traumas, accidents and some chronic such as sitting for long periods, working at a desk for long periods, using computers or phones or standing for long periods.

These physical stresses cause us to lose the normal alignment and put the spine in a weakened position. This is represented in our outward appearance called posture. Abnormal posture equals Abnormal spinal alignment and weakened spinal system. Common abnormal postures such as forward head posture, low shoulder, uneven hips, and pelvis rotation are postural signs of a weakened damaged spine.

At first, this causes no pain but as it continues to abnormally load the spinal structures, it begins to break down the spinal structures leading to spinal damage and eventually the pain and functional loss to develop.

Dr. Alfonso’s Corrective Chiropractic Care System has 3 major treatments components working synergistically together to achieve phenomenal results without drugs or surgery.

Corrective Chiropractic Care rehabilitates the weakened and damaged spinal system and its parts (muscles, ligaments, fascia, discs, bone, and nerves) decreasing pain, improving function, improving structure, and quality of life.
