People who need whiplash treatment typically develop symptoms in 1-3 days but can take weeks for some symptoms to develop. People not receiving the proper diagnosis and whiplash treatment can result in long-term damage and future health problems.
Auto injuries often result in damage to the supporting soft tissues of the spine such as discs, ligaments, muscles, tendons and fascia. Many people will need whiplash treatment even after minor auto accidents at low speeds.
What Causes A Person To Need Whiplash Treatment ?
Sudden acceleration and/or deceleration of the body as a result of automobile accidents, collisions during sports, and even falls can cause a whiplash injury.
This quick acceleration or deceleration of the body can result in uncontrolled forced hyperflexion and hyperextension of the head and neck. These whiplash forces can damage nerves, ligaments, bones, muscles, tendons, and facia and require a person to need whiplash treatment.
How Is A Whiplash Diagnosis Determined ?
The doctor will diagnose a whiplash injury from a comprehensive consultation, physically examination, and specialized diagnostics.
The consultation provides the doctor with information about the symptoms you are experiencing and how the forces to cause whiplash occurred in your specific collision or trauma.
Specialized orthopedic and neurological tests are performed to identify abnormal spinal functions, decreased or excessive ranges of motion, and positions resulting in pain and decreased function often found with people needing whiplash treatment as a result of injury.
The doctor will then take specialized static x-rays of the spine to evaluate and objectively identify structural damages to bone, discs, and joints found in whiplash injuries. Abnormal gaping between vertebral spinal joints and decreased space between the spinal vertebrae are clinical findings of a ligamentous and/or spinal disc damage found on X-rays.
The examination and static x-ray findings will help the doctor decide if advanced diagnostics tests such as, MRI, CT Scan, and/or Digital Motion X-rays to develop a proper diagnosis.
Sunset Chiropractic and Wellness is one of a few healthcare clinics in Florida providing and utilizing Digital Motion X-ray (DMX) to find whiplash injuries and guide whiplash treatment. DMX technology helps doctors to locate damage often missed by motionless static x-ray, MRI,and CT scans.
DMX (Digital Motion X-Ray) is a weight bearing, motion X-ray fluoroscopic system that allows the physician to analyze whiplash injured areas of the spine and extremities in real time motion. In most cases whiplash injury hurts while the patient is moving or is performing a task.
After all the whiplash treatment information is collected and all necessary examinations and diagnostics are performed and studied, the doctor will then provide you with a comprehensive report of findings and diagnosis. Dr. Alfonso will explain in detail the extent of your whiplash injury and recommended treatment while providing answers to any questions in regards to your condition.
