Forward Head Posture can affect my mouth and jaw?

Forward Head Posture - mouth and jaw

Electromyography of the masticatory muscles during chewing in different head and neck postures – A pilot study.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/32071851/

RESULTS:

A significant increase in muscle activity was found for masseter muscle in the forward head posture condition. No differences were found in muscle activity in natural head position by posture classification. A trend of increased activity was observed for masseter and temporalis muscles during chewing in forward head posture

Conclusion: Head and neck posture was found to influence masticatory muscle activity during the function of chewing. The results of this study may help clinicians to better understand the association between head and neck posture alterations with masticatory muscles related disorders.

This is a great study reminding us that the body is a synergistic system and often a condition or pain in one region of the body can greatly result in problems in a different area.

Throughout our lives, we have physical stress on our body, some acute such as falls, traumas, accidents and some chronic such as sitting for long periods, working at a desk for long periods, using computers or phones or standing for long periods.

These physical stresses cause us to lose the normal alignment and put the spine in a weakened position such as forward head posture.

At first, this causes no pain but as it continues to abnormally load the spinal structures, it begins to break down the spinal structures leading to spinal damage and eventually the pain and functional loss to develop.

Corrective Chiropractic Care rehabilitates the weakened and damaged spinal system and its parts (muscles, ligaments, fascia, discs, bone, and nerves) decreasing pain, improving function, improving structure, and quality of life.

Dr. Alfonso’s Corrective Chiropractic Care System has 3 major treatments components working synergistically together to achieve phenomenal results without drugs or surgery.
